What Is Wrong With Obedience?
There is a clear and widespread discomfort for the word “obedience.” Even some Christians read about it in the Bible and think it does not fit and needs to be explained away. But why?
· It doesn't contradict God’s grace but is demanded by it (Titus 2:11-14).
· It doesn’t contradict saving faith but is defined by it (Romans 1:5; 16:25).
· It doesn’t contradict righteousness but results in it (Romans 6:16-18; cf. Luke 1:17).
· It doesn’t contradict Jesus’ teaching but is inherently part of it (Luke 6:46).
· It doesn’t contradict love for God but necessarily proves it (John 14:15, 21-24; 2 John 6).
After reading what the Bible says about obedience it is not such a mystery why people dislike it and some men preach around it. It simply comes down to a disdain for the need to obey God—whether it be in one of His beautiful commands or all of them.
